The problem is, Mass Effect was great, then Mass Effect 2 strip lots of stuff people loved about Mass Effect and made it into a shallow action focused game. The RPG elements are almost non-existent and the 3rd person mechanics are subpar commpared to other games. Also, lots of the hate stems from the fact that diehard fans have been so-called "betrayed" by Biowares shift in focus.
