Wow ... they are not even trying to hide the fact that they are placating the call of duty/mindless shooter crowd. If there is a Mass Effect 4, they will probably just do away with conversation choices and character/weapon customization of any kind. Mass Effect 5 will be a crossover with Gears of War.

I like this post because it completely disregards the fact that all evidence, i.e. released footage, shows that there is far more in the way of weapon and skill customization than either of the previous games.

I must say there seems to be unjustified animosity towards this when infact it could be just what this game needs.

Raging RPG fanboy - "Oh no! in order to get the RPG game that I want I need to click two more times than I ought to"

Radom Kid on the Street - "clearly don't like RPG games then do you :|"

I mean seriously I love RPG games but atleast wait until they actually release the game to start flinging shit their way... and only if RPG mode turns out poor at that.

I have seen most of the gameplay footage shown so far for Mass Effect 3 as well as the tweets from the developer which claim that RPG elements are being added (one of them was basically just damage control when fans started to worry that the series was going to remove all of the RPG components of the game entirely). Nothing out there so far suggests to me that this game will have more RPG gameplay elements ... if anything it will be more of the same streamlined and dumbed down experienced that was offered in Mass Effect 2.

Even if RPG elements like weapon customization (Bioware just throwing a bone to the few diehard RPG fans it has left) are added, it will not be progress, but just a return to form making it similiar to Mass Effect 1 again ... and I doubt it will even approach the 3/4 RPG 1/4 shooter formula of the first game. Everything that has been shown about this game so far (combat heavy gameplay, new multiplayer coop shootouts, casual action only mode, dumb looking arm blade thing) all suggest to me that Bioware wants to bring the Mass Effect franchise closer and closer to Gears of War, another mindless third person shooter.

I don't care if it has not been released yet either. Gameplay footage and developer commentary is out there, and we also have the action heavy Mass Effect 2 as an indication of the direction that Bioware is taking the franchise.
