I do. When I first joined this site, I would mentally acknoledge all the grammatical mistakes made by the users of the site. I used to stop and examine a post whenever someone mispelled a word, or formed an incohesive sentence, or even when someone neglected to start their sentence with a capital letter. However, as I became used to the site, I realised that these errors were very abundant, due to posters being natural to another language, ignorance, or just plain laziness; and so I came to the conlusion that I would be wasting my energy trying to point out each and every error a person made.
So, I eventually stopped my routine of finding errors and correcting them in my head. But now, just today actually, I saw a post with a huge amount of errors and I had to mentally acknowledge them. One of the mistakes was the spelling of the word 'article' as 'artical'. I looked at the word for 10 minutes, I knew it was spelled incorrectly, I knew it was a very simple word, but I couldn't think of the correct spelling without the aid of a dictionary.
With this swarm of confusion caused by such a simple word, I began to question myself, "After so many years of ignoring all the errors people made, have I myself become stupider in the process? How many others words can I not spell? Was this the 1st simple error that I couldn't fix...or was it the 100th? Has the VGChartz community tainted my beautiful brain with their broken English? Am I becoming... one of them?". Sadly, I think that may be true.
Thanks, VGChartz. Thanks for dumbing me up.
