Sony will keep the main franchise in the hands of Naughty Dog, but they won't force them to make another Uncharted. That being said, Sony will spend a fortune for another talented developer in the stable to make an Uncharted game(s) if Naughty Dog wants to try another concept (as seen with Golden Abyss for Vita).

Sony won't pigeon hole their developers to make certain games. They never have. The developers always have had creative control over the games they develop. As long as they pitch it right and don't make the executives of Sony Computer Entertainment worry about the direction of the game.

I fully believe Jack Tretton is still in his position because of the success of Uncharted. With everything else that collasped for PlayStation in America (still sold over 20 million units of PS3, by PSP has been dead forever here and PS3 consistently trails behind 360) ever since Kaz moved up the ladder, Uncharted has established not only a franchise that gets the PlayStation faithful excited and rushes out to buy and make a big noise for it, but also characters that gamers love. Characters, that has always been Sony's toughest challenge. Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank and Sly (the mascots of last gen for PS2) all had spotty releases.

Jak and Daxter: The Precusors Legacy was loved, Jak 2 was hated, Jak 3 was good and Jak X was terrible

Ratchet and Clank was loved, but rough, Ratcher and Clank: Going Commando connected with the characters better, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal was fun, Deadlocked was bad.

The Future series (Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty and A Crack in Time) was okay with only A Crack in Time really being great. All 4 One is rough, beyond rough. Feels juvenile at best.

Sly Cooper, none of the games really established a connection with the mainstream.

Resistance started to build something with the first game, but then Insomniac screwed that up with 2 and 3.

Uncharted has become Sony's greatest franchise (sorry Gran Turismo) because everything about it screams masterpiece.


excellent post. I do love gt5 but I am afraid the uncharted trilogy is now Sony's flagship title. I think in order to keep The uncharted series fresh, sony needs to make sure Naughty dog makes the next iteration. I can't stress enough that Naught dog and sony have created the most liekable and charasmatic protagonist in gaming. It would be acrying shame to see uncharted end after a trilogy. Sony know what their fans want and It will be uncharted 4 as a launch title for ps4.
