ps1 being on that list is laughable. the vote was for influential not successful. to that end the iphone has been extremely influential in reshaping the market: the creation of a market for cheap disposable software. that said, the wii (motion controlls) and xbox live (multiplayer and dlc) probably deserve to be a bit closer in the spread but that's probably mostly because steve jobs just died and therefore more in the front of people's minds.

PS1 basically brought gaming to mainstream in Europe (before PS1 best selling console in Europe was Genesis at 8.65millio...).  That is pretty big feat in history of gaming.

You also have the fact that it was the first successful disc-based console, something every home console has been after that gen.  Then you have the design of the controller, something everyone since has emulated.  Memory cards, again something everyone has emulated, until the recent inclusion of HDDs.  It also popularized having extras to a console besides gaming.  The PS1 played music CD's, the PS2 played DVD's and supported Linux.  And the PS3, well, it just does everything.

Edit:  Oh yea, it also pushed gaming in the mainstream.
