[FFT, TRE, CRYPTOGRAPHY STENCIL ,LINEAR MULTIPLICATIONS, RAYCASTING , RAYTRACING are heavy computational tasks..................................If cell could excel there then how would it perform in low computational tasks like AI, GI, HDR.
They're heavy computational tasks but a processor being able to perform well in one task (fast fourier transform) doesn't mean that it will do well in another (AI).
There have been DSPs that can do image enhancement at a far greater level than your top of the line CPUs can today; somewhere in the range of 1,000 times the performance of a similar CPU running at a similar clock rate. In most of these cases the DSP do not have the basic performance to handle 10 year old games.
lol.....................read those articles gain u BUF****
All SPEs are completely flexible. CELL is a vector cum SCALAR processor.
the benchmarks compare each SPE with a PC core (in many cases).
SPES excel in all applications..........i repeat all applications............they could be made to perform like vertex shaders too.
