Why do they separate boys and girls in the first place!? >_> Just mix them together. That way the kids can form patrols based on their preferences instead of their gender. Believe it or not but there are girls who likes archery and there are boys who likes knitting (or baking or whatever it is girl scouts do). Plus, even when you mix boys and girls you can still let the scouts form patrols with only boys or girls.
Edit: Also, if anything it's healthy to hang out with people of the opposite gender, imho.
