I agree in that a reviewer has his/her reasons to detract points from a game from his/her point of view. I never got review hating.
We have to remember a review is simply someone's take on a game, that's it. And the personal preferences are going to influence the final score.
So when some people complain about a game being 'unfairly reviewed for what it's not trying to be' (I've seen this complaint a lot), they should realise that this happens with every other form of entertainment. A guy who loves insightful movies is going to give Transformers a shit score, even if he's conscious that the movie's not trying to be insightful.
The thing is, movie/book/music reviewers are not afraid of raging fanboys on the internet, because there aren't as many as with videogames for some reason. That's why metacritics are so much lower on average for these. We complain about scores being too high and then we rage because Uncharted's lowest score is an 8 (an 8!!! Lowest score!!).
