Actually Sony probably wont even put the Blu-ray that we all know of right now in their next console. For the past 2 years Sony has been developing a new blue-violet laser that will allow for single layer disc sizes to be at 1TB and higher. Read speeds will be about 10-20X that of current maximums for Blu-ray.

If they are developing a new medium, it'd be pretty stupid of them to put it in their next system. As expensive as the PS3 debuted at, they shouldn't be putting a new medium (from the sounds of it) in their next system unless they want the price to be sky high again like this gen. Isn't there Blu-ray discs now that are 50-100GB single layer now?

No,  the maximum that a single layer Blu-ray are about 33GB.

And the cost isnt going to be that much as they are just expanding on current technology and its being co-developed with a major tech University in Japan.
