People. Just because there is a new input doesn't mean that it has to be used. This is a second touch screen (on PSV) that can be used without obstructing the screen. Just put a little icon on the screen to show where you're touching and it should be as easy to use as a mouse.
As for using it on a controlller, it would be like using a Wii U touch screen without the screen. It wouldn't detract from the games. It would add to it! The N64 had analog but it wasn't used in every game. The Gamecube had "clicky triggers" but that wasn't used in every game. DS touchscreen and mic, Wii Motion control, PS shoulder buttons, Dreamcast VMU--alll were just extra inputs and features that were optional for developers to use.
