Umm, Muslims took over Jerusalem from the Byzantine Empire. The people who led the Crudades had no right to have any pretense of Jerusalem (not to mention that the crusaders also looted Constantinopole). The whole religious argument of the crusaders was just pure madness.

And it happened over 400 years before the first crusade. The crusaders of the late 11th century were damn late. And unless I'm mistaken it was the Turks threatening Constantinople that actually ignited the first crusade.

During the siege of Jerusalem the jews actually fought alongside the muslims against the christian invaders and both the muslims and the jews were massacred once the city was taken.
