I understood what you were offering, I just thought you were giving me full control when you asked for the terms. Uh, I accept your new proposal, I guess. Although, I don't see any incentive for you, but sure, I accept the bet. You must know a very important secret, or you place little significance on your profile. Either way, this should be quite interesting. |
It is dishonourable to make a bet with someone when you have exclusive knowledge about something that will have a major impact in your favour on the outcome of the bet (talking to Dodece here). I see that you've recognised the dishonourability of such a situation by offering for Jay520 to not suffer any consequence for losing. You say that winning the bet will give you bragging rights, and that's enough. But what bragging rights does one earn if the only reason you seem to have such awesome predictive powers if you have knowledge of something that if everyone else had that knowledge they would come to the same conclusion as you, or very similar? That really earns no kudos at all. What earns people major bragging rights is when they make a prediciton in great opposition to the majority opinion based on exactly the same set of facts and assumptions as everyone else, and you are proven right. Case in Point: BHR-3's predicition regarding Uncharted 2 sales from launch to the end of 2009. The people who called him an idiot looked, well idiotic come 1 January 2010. The people who were somewhat more measured in their responses, but still thought he was wide of the mark gave him his due and happily ate the crow he fed us.
So the honourable thing to do here is reveal what you know, so that we can take account of that knowledge and come to our own conclusions about how that will influence 360 / PS3 sales. If people still say that 360 will struggle to overhaul PS3's current lead and you remain adament that 360 will end up 1 million ahead for the year then you will have earnt major bragging rights.
If you are legally prohibited from revealing your knowledge then hold this bet in abeyance until the event or events about which you have knowledge have come to pass and then come back and re-open negotiations. Who knows, if what you know is as earth shattering as you suggest Jay520 might be in complete agreement with you, thus nullifying the bet. Indeed some people may think you really are being conservative with your mere 1 million difference.
