Console games have never really been next-gen, let's be completely honest here. DX10 cards were released a week prior to the PS3's launch date. That, was next-gen. Right now, DX11 cards have been out for a bit...so really, console games are last last gen.
I don't see how using the current catch phrase helps any though, really, when someone says next-gen, it makes me think they're trying to sell me a pile o' poo, thinking I don't know any better. Though, I tend to follow closely, the development of games I'm interested in anyway, so I know who's talkin' out their arse and who isn't.
