Why are developers still calling games for current gen consoles (Next-Gen)?

It would be perfectly possible to refer to the Xbox 360 and PS3 as the HD consoles to make it clear that a particular game isn't coming to the Wii, but by doing that they wouldn't be able to take a shot at the Wii.

I have realized that since day one. However since next-generation consoles have actually been announced and confirmed its a little misleading and completely wrong to call a title coming to 360/PS3 a next generation game. Its not next generation in any sense of the word its a lie essentially. I'm so upset if Activision mislead people. When you call something next generation it should actually be next generation.

I mean if I develop a SNES game should I call it next generation? I mean that makes as much sense as calling 360/PS3 next generation.
