This isn't crazy and it's not funny.
Pokemon got really popular and religious fanatics ruined it for us all. My school gathered us all in the yard and made our religion teacher explain to us why Pokemon is haram. It was viewed as an attempt to promote the "evolution theory". Pokemon made lots of people angry in the middle east and MBC ,the only channel that dubbed it into Arabic, was forced to cancel it. (we never got to see it again and by "we" I mean the WHOLE ARABIC nation).
Later on came Digimon that also have monsters that evolve. It had to be modified in order to avoid Pokemon's fate. Evolving scenes were all removed, the story is nothing like the original and it was altered heavily.
We never ever had got to watch any anime with its original story after Pokemon.
