VGChartz Hardware data for the period 10th Oct 2010 to 01st Jan 2011:

X360                  PS3

6,866,522          6,283,436

Just another way to look at it. MS outsold PS3 by nearly 600K from Oct 10th 2010 to Jan 1st 2011. They need to outsell the PS3 by nearly twice that amount this year without Kinect being the hot new device. If MS have a price cut or something up their sleeves they should do it already.

I mentioned the same bit of data a few weeks ago and Seece took an attitude with me and basically said 'Well they'll find a way to do it'. It's a statistical improbability. Why can't people just accept its not going to happen. Its not just a baseless fanboy argument, its backed up by the data that we have.

its seems Seece is using the same broken logic used last yr.

this yr there are no advantages. you could easily pare whts going to help who and cancel them out.

COD boost: no point in arguing this one, but generaly not like yr's before it cancels out and the FFXIII-2 bundle will also cover this one

BF3: this ones funny considering it favors MS in preorders so you'd think it would help. the bundle for the PS3 version is likely the funniest part about this bundle cause it won't help much and whts left from FFXIII-2 if  there is anything left will also cancel any boost given.

UC3 v Halo: yea i know UC isn't as big as Halo but it will cancel any boost given from Halo.

GEARS: the price cut canceled that and FIFA. not quite the cancel but it did some good and kept sonys 1m lead in tact.

360 bundles v PS3 multi colors: i'm not sure wht else is coming out but i'm sure theres something to cancel it.

If Sony/PS3 losses anything it will be a few thousand, and the PS3 lead isn't just 1m so that few 100k(i don't know wht it is cause i haven't looked) will hold off MS as it has in the past.

counter it if you want, but it won't help.

Exactly.  It's the same logic that 360 fans used back when the PS3 was ~ 8 million units behind, saying a price cut and new model would only help it for a few weeks and MS would be able to mantain an 8 million and growing gap til the end of the gen.  Here we are now and the gap has dropped to ~3 million.  I'll admit, MS has been putting up a damn good fight, especially with Kinect last year.  But that's the thing, their fight has only gone toward slowing down the gap decrease, not fully reversing it.

And all of your points stand.  For everything MS has to increase sales, Sony has something in the works to counter it.  So overall, sales for the holiday are going to be similar, with maybe MS being ahead by a few 100K.  But, still not enough ahead to destroy an over 1 million gap the PS3 has so far this year.

It's kinda sad to see Seece's reasoning.  I mean the only thing I've only seen him say is MS knows much more than we do and has faith that they can do it.  However, just because a company says it wants to do something or is going to do something, doesn't mean it will happen.  Just last fiscal year, Sony said it was going to ship 15 million units, but I believe they ended up ~300K short.

thank you.

we may not know what MS has but if its not a price drop which really wouldn't help in a logical since cause of the arcade model then they've really got nothing.

if MS has any chance of beating sony its 2012 and once again Sony leads in the IP department with 2 or 3 new exclusives and 7-10 total, not to mention what ever Eat Sleep Play, Suckerpunch, guerrilla games has been working on cause there all said to all be working on new ip.

and there new approach to indie developers is likely to help as well. we also don't know wht else Sony have for 2012 or how they will react to what ever blind confidence Seece seems to have that MS will out sell Sony holiday season 2011.

it seems i have the evidence for a counter to what MS has for a sells boost, and Seece is just shooting in the wind hoping to get blown away.

i also agree with your post.
