This sort of reminds me of NFL 2k series versus Madden when the NFL would give out more then 1 official license. Every year NFL 2k had better reviews, was even priced better, but it just couldn't hold a candle to what Madden was and still is. I played the Forza 4 demo just last night and I must admit I was pretty impressed with it. In many ways it may well be better then the GT games just as NFL 2K games in many ways were better then Madden games. But Gran Turismo is the landmark game that all racing games are measured against just as Madden is for NFL Football. GT is the game that raised and set the bar and completely redefined the racing genre which is why they still and probably always will be the king of all racers. Something that is truly missing from the Forza series and in my opinion GT5 is that somewhere down the line (all this generation) these racing games actually quit being about having fun and became more of a pageant show on who could make the better tech demo.
