Sony's lead in EMEAA is not 'mostly' down to superior supplier relations. The Sony brand is stronger in these areas and their product is more appealing to audiences there. And, I disagree with the 2nd paragraph. If Microsoft and Sony come out with superior consoles, why is someone who is not a loyal Nintendo gamer going to buy the WiiU to play 3rd party games on? |
The latter point hinges on multiple factors. While there is certainly a broad audience out there that simply does not see the appeal in Nintendo titles, this audience that is completely non-receptive to all Nintendo titles is a relatively small portion of the market, and while currently people cannot justify buying a Wii just to play that one Nintendo series they like (whatever it may be), they could justify purchasing a Wii U to play that one Nintendo series they like plus all the multiplats
This factors into Nintendo's continued willingness to provide truly compelling software, of course. If they continue to build Wii-style killer-apps, they can force their way into households and then get the core gamers of the household to buy the other games on the device that's already there. If they simply try to cater to the GC audience, the one that Seece outlined, then yes, there will be little reason for it to be anything other than another GameCube, which did support third party parity up until around 2004 (when the third-party conspiracy began)
The inevitable graphical superiority of Sony and Microsoft's successor consoles will have to be weighed against this potential blockbusters on Nintendo's end. Remember that having superior versions of many multiplats in no way helped the XBox, because the PS2's exclusive content was far more compelling.
