i couple of yrs ago id say yeah
but now i dont think it do much if they waited
one has to think if a 360 that has a model thats only $50 less which doesnt include blu ray or even a HDD and another sku thats $50 more and still doesnt have a blu ray drive if those can both outsell a ps3 in one of the most important markets then its really not the price of a ps3 or timing of a price cut thats the problem
and to further my beliefs the 360 had its price cut/ new sku in the middle of the summer and it had wonderful results, so i can blame ps3 recent sales performance on timing of its price cut. what i could blame it on is things they lost or dont have those things would be loosing some/all of the 3rd party exclusives from the past 2 gens that most associate the PS brand with, console features like the 360 being the choice for multi plat devs to develop on resulting in the superior version, even the ability to install games on the HDD that also results in better running game, and finally the lack of hardcore themed games like gears and halo or at least have some of the features that those games offer and that theyve been offering since 06-07 ie. full campaign co-op and local play
