"My personal recommendation: Start as a soldier, increase faith to 12, attunement to 10, learn heal from the cleric at fire link shrine, and find the talisman at fire link shrine. That will give you a good start. From there, if you want to use powerful weapons, focus on Str or Dex, or if you want to use Miracles, focus on Faith. If you want to use magic instead, change faith to int."
Sounds like great advice to me.
