Yeah, I think the article is valid. Anyone who plays a game for so many hours everyday will obviously began to naturally associate things with gaming. I think the lifebar thing is bogus though. The interviewee was probably just trolling them when he said that.
With that being said, any prolonged experience with anything will cause the brain to grow accustom to those circumstances.
