How so? Crime rates in the US are still very high compared to other countries which don't have the death penalty. Not to mention that this guy was essentially convicted based on circumstancial evidence and faulty witnesses. which is simply absurd.

It's already been proved by sudies that it's actually cheaper to lock someone in prison for life than to sentence that person to death (due to all the retrails, the cost of the actual procedure etc.). Not to mention that money shouldn't be an issue in such a situation: if you lock someone innocent in prison for life, they have a chance to prove their innocence eventually (or at least they won't be dead), wheras if you exectue an innocent person, saying mea culpa won't really solve anything after the deed is done. And of course there's also the moral issue if such a punishment (the death penalty) should be carried out on anyone regardless of actual guilt.

I wonder if those witnesses that lied will be charged with perjury.
