the thing is FF is already an established franchise. the thing about established franchises is that quality is usually expected with every main release (to differentiate from spin-offs).
when a company tries to innovate in an established franchise, there are usually one of two reactions: people complain that it's too different or people gratify the changes.
however people react in the end depends on how fun the game is. what square is trying to do is keep FF alive, not kill it.
