Nintendo has shown that they get arrogant and lazy instantly once in a position of power, so I would never want them to monopolize again unless its the handheld circuit. They need their backs against the ropes in order to produce content that we actually want.

Microsoft can go 3rd party definitely. Outside of Gears and Halo, they don't really have an exclusive presence to speak of. However, their first party efforts are mediocre at best; if not in the console wars they would probably just back out. They only entered in 2001 to combat Sony anyways.

Sony would be in the best position to go 3rd party but we need some type of competition around to combat Nintendo. Sony in a Sega position would be excellent though because they are capable of high game output and have many studios. It could potentially be bery profitable for them without having to deal with hardware production.
