Yeah, that argument don't hold up so well here. Each one of these has their western sales higher than FFVII's. Keep in mind that three of the games on this list are officially "spin-offs".

Unless by success you mean critical reception amongst "core" consumers, which wasn't what I was originally referring to at all since I was basically saying that the only JRPG a lot of people have played is Pokemon.

No I was referring to DQ  a series you pointed out that influenced FF ,but note they didn't have FF the series they had FF7, why because after it came out to many and here I'm talking about mainly Western gamers who hadn't grown up on the older DQ / FF games ,and who in some cases found those games through FF7's success, it's popularity helped by it's huge media presence and the rise of the Playstation brand took it too heights on console at that time  that a single JRPG hasn't seen since, it was hard as a gamer even if you weren't interested in it not to know about it, that is why I said (B) even though pokemon has higher sales some times it's as much about how a game resonates at it's peak.
