I have no idea how a franchise which had its first title's concept clearly inspired from a popular series at the time (DQ) gets to top the list.
A genre-defining game should either be a) the game that actually literally DEFINED the genre in the first place and led to so many copycats that they called the entire thing a genre to get away with it or b) the most popular series in the genre that defines it for most people as that's all they know it as.
That would be either a) DQ or b) Pokemon. Don't see why FF's up there, even if it is popular amongst the "core" crowd.

I'm even less qualified to speak for the rest so I won't, though I don't see why genres that have so few games (or so unpopular games) that they're barely genres are up there. I'm not sure what to think of three games in the list having "/Adventure" as their genre or part of it.
