PS2 2001 sales numbers vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =)

*THE MAIN POINT of THIS THREAD - is to SEE how far/close will PS3 be in 2008 compared to PS2 with it`s 16 mln. consoles sold in 2001.

I decided to make a comparison between PS2 numbers of 2001 and PS3 numbers of 2008, because:
1) 2008 is first year, when PS3 will be selling WW for FULL year - 2001 was first year, when PS2 was selling WW for FULL year.
2) In 2001 were released BIG games like MGS2, GTA3, FFX, DMC, GT3. Games like MGS4, GTA4, FFXIII, DMC4, GT5 also aimed to 2008.
3) 2008 is second PS3 year, 2001 was second PS2. PS2 sold 16 mln. in 2001.
PS2 launched in March 2000. Was selling for 10 month.
PS3 launched in November 2006. Was selling for 1,5 month.

10 month of 2000 close to 1 year? YES.
1,5 month of 2006 close to 1 year? NO.
12 month of 2007 close to 1 year? YES.

Overall:
2000 PS2 = 2007 PS3.
2001 PS2 = 2008 PS3.

The differences:
1) PS2 cost 299$ in 2001 for whole year, PS3 cost 399$-499$ for now.
2) PS2 wasn`t that powerfull as xbox and GC, PS3 is the most powerful console to date. PS2 hadn`t HDD, PS3 now has. PS2 hadn`t good online, PS3 has. PS3 is more reliable then PS2 was. DMC was exclusive and GTA3 timed exclusive.
3) PS2 was selling almost for whole year without competitors, PS3 now have competitors. FIGHT!
