staticneuron said: People who say that the PSP does not offer anything different than the PS2 is just regurgitating tired and lame opinions. If you have played the PSP only when it came out, or on one game, or for a limited period of time, maybe you shouldn't be so absolute in your judgemental opinions.
Correct for your first statement. But we, who probably spend far too much time on gaming forums for our sanity's sake, eat, pee and shit games. Most people on earth don't. Lucrative and growing as the gaming industry is, it's not nearly as mass-market as listening to music or watching movies (just give it a generation or two, though). The majority of those who don't comprise the 20-odd members of this forum couldn't care less whether the PSP has better hardware or can interface with the PS3 via WiFi or that it can soon, via a special interactive Bluetooth dongle, wipe your ass with three-ply tissue. Not everyone is "hardcore" - frequently, even people who buy technology (LCD TVs, PCs, and so on) are blissfully ignorant of what the hell they are buying. They aren't well-versed in jargon such as HDMI, 1080p/1080i/720p/480p/480i, don't know how to turn on their computers let alone troubleshoot them, and frankly, couldn't care less. As for your second quote, I think that may also be a big consumer-related problem: Many people have already passed judgement. You know what they say about first impressions. And I'm willing to wager that loads of them don't see the PSP as anything else but a portable PS2. So what do they do? They spread the "PSP = PS2" spiel to other non-"hardcore gamer" consumers. Inadvertently, but they do. This limits PSP adoption as well dy driving away potential buyers. Sad but true. (You should as a gamer "ambassador" go and preach the gaming gospel and show them the light. I know I try all the time, and you'd be amazed at the stuff you hear.) Some PSP games are truly great. The technology is quite impressive as well (albeit somewhat fragile) and touch/dual screen aside, the PSP smokes the DS in the horsepower department. But, how does the rest of the world that don't name their offspring after videogame characters view the PSP? Versus the DS? They both are portable consoles, why the almost 2:1 difference?
