Next gen will be the first generation Sony releases a Playstation console without including a new media device with it. Profit will be higher, but could this hurt sales? I mean I bought my PS2 at first because it was also a DVD player, and I know several people who bought a PS3 as a cheap blu-ray player, and then picked up a couple games for it. Thoughts?  well i fill that area is smaller in numbers. eslimate in your mind how many PS3 owners own one just for blu-ray. hell i doubt they make up 1m of the owners that own a PS3. yea PS3 help'd Blu-ray but not by that much.

in general gamers will look for the best value and we'll see which one has the best value. i think i gave the impression that i'll automaticaly get a PS4! thats not actualy the case? you see, once again its about value, and while Sony has done that this gen. the rules have changed again for the 8th gen. it was 8 new innovative ip. the rules are the same for handhelds and Vita has already done wht PS3 is only just passing.

20 new innovative IP, with no usual suspects. so UC, KZ, LBP, or from the third through seven gen ip will not get me to purchase any console next gen. they all have to be new. any sequal's from this gen are just added bonuses.

yes i know i'm demanding and you should be to.

As for PS3 (and 360) processing power. Both are maxed, not just with RAM, but graphically too. However people are just learning techniques to show better graphics and have better AI while using less processing power. When the PS3 and 360 first came out people just used old engines and turned up the polygon count, texture resolution, anti aliasing, etc. However knowing how much of which to alter will get better graphics out of the system. E.g. Forza 3 and 4 run on the same engine, but Forza 4 looks noticably better. Gears of War also follows this logic, but Halo and Killzone were largely redesigned. well i wasn't talking about graphic's. i was talking about raw power which is said by many third party not to be max'd out yet.

There is a such thing as a dual layer Blu-Ray disk. 360 and Wii currently use Dual layer DVD's and the logic for Blu-Ray disks are the same. Disk space will increase to 90GB, but most games now only use 10 GB. The only games that use more then 10GB are those with very loosly tied up codes (why limit the code if the space is less limited), and games with long HD cinematics. So MGS, Final Fantasy XIII, and Resistance (different coding) use most of the Blu-Ray. yea i understand that. so space increased from 50g to 90g?

As for starting a console out with a new IP, that's probably going to be true, but there will also be an old IP as well. Most good launches have 1 good old IP too. I think PS4 might start out with Killzone 4. yea likely, or UC, but naughtydog has a history of creating new ip every gen.

As for price, I doubt a PS3 costs $200 to make now. PSV might cost $200, PS3 costs $100 max. A Blu Ray drive is like $10 to produce for Sony now (just the drive), that's why standalone units are being sold for $100. The PC components are also old, 512MB of DDR3 ram is a joke nowdays. yea i was just considering a logical cost. Sony does seem more comfortable so maybe PS3 does cost closer to $100. yea PC gamers are laughing at us right now with there 2G RAMS.

I think Gears and MGS both have about equal chances to go multiplatform. MGS2 did release on X-Box 1 after all. dito

I have family in New York, and in New York used 360 games are also much cheaper then PS3 games. This is likely just because in Americas 360 far outsells PS3, so there are significantly more used copies laying around. There are more console owners too, but when inventory is high, price drops. supply over demand

As for what other PC you gamed on, I dunno much about PC's, but first of all a Mac is not a PC. PC is Microsoft and Mac is Apple. You likely gamed on a Microsoft PC. if its a computer then its a PC to me no matter whether its apple pr compaq. well you in Canada but theres a commercial that gives you a PC if you can find one for under 1K and they showed the apple air make or something like that so a MAC is a PC.

or better yet if it has a CPU the its a PC, hins my argument that home consoles are portable PC's lol.

i know the difference i mean hell i was an apple fan, but yes it was MS. i wrote and essay about the gateway 2000 when i was in the 5th grade. yep i left home consoles and went back to PC gaming for a the gateway 2k.

Probably only a couple million of owners bought a PS3 just for Blu-Ray, but it likely helped encourage maybe another 5 million more purchase PS3 over 360. A lot of people look at PS3 and 360 games on even ground, but heck if PS3 also comes with Blu-Ray, then they go with that. Next gen Sony will be on even playing grounds with MS (Nont Nintendo since they refuse to pay loyalties and made their own format). This is just hypothetical, the impact of not having a new and exclusive media format can be a big or small hinder or boost to sales. Anything goes. agreed. wht precentage of those few milion that bought the system for Blu-ray only have turned into gamers?

Are new IP's really that important for you? I'm not 100% gareneteed to get a PS4, but like you I'm leaning toward it simply because of brand loyalty/power. For me it's more about what they offer. I need good games of the genres I like (new and old IP's or JRPG's, Shooters, and Racing games). I want good graphics, reliability, value, free online, and in general some good multiplayer games. I care more about the the system and the number of appealing games then overall number of new IP's. 360 did it for me this gen, but it's bailing out on me in terms of reliabiliy, value, and online. The gen before GCN did it for me, but it just had a little too few games to keep me exclusive. ok maybe i've gone overboard with the new ip thing. no there not that important but its avoiding the Ninty curse for me. the Ninty cure is reliability in there core ip. i don't care how innovative they are eveerytime they make Mario its still Mario nd thats the thin that doesn't change for me. i guess i need that level of change. i'll change it back to 10 new innovative ip and 10 exsisting ip. its franchise reliability.

Ps360 is maxed out, developers are just learning new ways to improve graphics without increasing demand on the consoles. Dev's could learn more from current gen systems, but they are limited. dito i figured as much

For Blu Ray Disks 45GB to 90GB. PS3 Blu Rays are about 45GB in size. as i thought. God of war has taken up the most space so far was i've heard. i think it was 35g?

About RAM, my 9 year old Tower has 1GB of RAM and a higher bus and faster processor then PS360. However it's a single processor, and giant. ?. i'm a business major not a tech guy so run that by me again

PC by tradmark is a "Personal Computer." Mac is not a personal computer by trademark. The PC trademark just got so popular, everyone started calling Mac's PC. This is just as wrong as calling a PS3 a Nintendo. Microsoft own the PC trademark, that's why it's illegal to advertize Macs as PC's (they aren't). It's just a funny fact. lol

It's understandable to have left consoles for PC in the 90's. PC games just aren't what they used to be. Roller Coaster Tycoon, SimCity, Diablo, and Warcraft were all addictive as hell. Dunno much about PC's, so I can't expand on this point, sorry. mute
