I really don't understand some people's disregard for systems that do not feature dual analog, I never got it for the PSP and now for the 3DS. I'm not saying that this sudden semi uturn illustrates a degree of short sightedness at Nintendo, I personally would've including a second analog stick if I were Nintendo.
I'm also not quite sure as some people are working this into a sort of 'Nintendo is d0med' scenario, IMO Nintendo are actually coming out of this quite well assuming that only a small selection of games use this add-on. Sure they look stupid, but this has secured this a major new MH game, with the possibility for more. This could've turned out much worse for Nintendo.
