Just because a handheld has two analog sticks doesn't mean it isn't a handheld anymore. The reason a lot of people including myself are excited about it is because it allows developers a shit ton more flexibility with control schemes. Many upon many PSP games for example were very limited due to the way the camera had to be handled. You would have to use the L/R nubs on the back or even the Triangle, Square, X, Cricle to control it.

A lot of DS game have cameras that are fixed and not movable. Not all games require the camera to be moved but FPS games for example need this badly. I doubt Sony could make Uncharted that well for the Vita with a fixed camera.

Nintendo doesn't NEED to have it but it would be highly beneficial.
