Umm having tried to do PC gaming for a few years and not being able to do so financially. I'd say that PC gaming is expensive. In fact I spent almost two grand in like two years trying to keep my PC capable of playing the latest games (Back in the early millennium) but then turned to consoles I could afford all three at a cheaper cost then it cost to upgrade my PC. Guess what I haven't spent much since , all three consoles give me more then enough games. More games then that 1,000 a year computer ever could. Now I hear PC gaming has gotten much cheaper however I went to the store and tried buying a gaming laptop that could play Crysis2, StarCraft2 and ShogunTotalWar2 and I was told I could go with a 800$ one, however further questioning revealed that I would probably suffer lag and such and if I really wanted to experience the games at their best it would cost about 1,200$ for a good gaming laptop. Even that 1,200$ one isn't state of the art look at Alien Ware's gaming laptops you want one state of the art that will be playing games a year or two from now and your talking way over 1,000$.
Now I was also told a 500$ laptop would probably be able to play a lot of games very laggy and such but they would be playable. But honestly I could buy a new PS3 and a few games for cheaper. The PS3 would give me nearly state of the art graphics and a lot more games to choose from.
PC gaming is just plain expensive. For somebody who makes only 500$ a month after rent and about 300$ after bills. I really don't have 1,200$ to spend on a high end gaming laptop or the 500$ to spend on a low end laptop that probably won't be able to play the games I want as good as I want!

So first you started to say you spend $1k a year for a PC, and then you went to gaming laptops? I am sorry if I don't take you seriously.

Yah because back in the early millennium PC's were still pretty popular. I spent a fortune so I could play Phantom Menace and Age Of Empires and such. It was so expensive.
Now recently I was looking into a gaming laptop. Why? Because towers are inefficient and most retailers barely carry them anymore. Not to mention for business purposes other then gaming I need a laptop so a gaming laptop makes the most sense right now!
So yes a decade ago I was investing up to 1,000$ a year to keep my PC up to date. So I could play originally AOE:II and then Phantom Menace those were two of the big games I wanted to ensure I could play. I upgraded twice before dropping PC in favor of consoles, since then I still owned a PC but never bought one powerful enough to game, because getting one strong enough to play the latest games is just too expensive.
Now I'm looking into a laptop for business. I need it to be able to play some games however I don't have shit tons of money either. A 1,200$ machine is out of question. I'm planning to see what I can get black Friday, hopefully something that will run some of the newer games. But in that case it probably won't be able to run the latest games very well.
As I said PC gaming is just too expensive.
