General - Evil Corporations? - View Post

Corporations as a whole aren't evil, though there is corruption in a few of them. Of course, when this corruption is finally brought to light, people have the ability to to stick it to them by no longer buying their products. And the problem with "monitoring" them is that governments are just as, if not more, corrupt. All it takes is a nice campaign contribution to the right government official and you've gotten the government off your back.

For an example, look at how GE didn't have to pay one cent in federal taxes this year. Guess who's going to be getting a nice bonus for helping GE avoid paying taxes. The CEO, Jeffrey R Immelt. Who's the right hand man of GE's CEO? Obama. And who's going to be getting a nice contribution from Mr. Immelt? Obama. Which begs the question, why is a current CEO of a corporation on a government commitee (probably being paid a good taxpayer provided salary, as well) in the first place? Seems like a conflict of interest to me.
