Will the launch of PSV affect PS3 sales in Japan?

Well at E3, Sony was describing the PSV as a handheld with close to PS3 graphics.

As for games, the big ones I see are Uncharted, LBP, Mod Nation Racers, Disgaea, Killzone, Mortal Kombat, Resistance, and a few multiconsole titles like Fifa, F1, Strret fighter x Tekken, etc. Just waiting on the JRPG's.

they did mention it and they are right. especially since it's a smaller screen the graphics displayed are comparable to the current HD consoles. BUT it's not the point that they address mainly and it has been evident in the past months, time after time they take the opportunity to highlight other features of the device ESPECIALLY the social networking aspect. Even on their game demoes they try and show how to use the new controls in the game rather than the graphical level.

and like I said, there's something for everyone and that's a rather limited list of games you have heard of. there are quite a few new IP's announced for the device already with gameplay and such to boot. Sony has done a great job in showcasing all sides of their game line up..when they show/talk of Golden Abyss they also take the chance to talk of Ruin/Gravity/sound shapes etc/. when they talk of Burning skies they also talk of Escape Plan. the line up's huge and it keeps getting more diverse with announcements like Persona, Lil Kings story sequel etc every week. So it's just a matter of knowing the line up better

so yeah..different markets. not gonna be a problem

When I watched E3, I thought graphics, games, and innovations in gameplay (like the touchpad on the back) were what they were pushing. Social connectivity I didn't really pay attention to if it was driven hard. Demo's I felt they tried to show a mix of gameplay and graphics, if you watch the Uncharted demo, graphics are the first thing they talk about, then they go in depth into gameplay (like multiple ways to jump and swing).

I didn't mention all the games I heard about, just the more major ones. Ruin and Dungeons Crown are also bigger, but they also come out on PS3, which is one reason why I ask if PSV will affect PS3 sales in Japan. Obviously there are more, but I didnt try and name every game.

 

well now as you see even you noticed what they were talking about. Uncharted psv has some truly amazing graphics so it's obvious they talk about it..the series in general is known for it. and the impressive graphics are the first things anyone would notice when playing that demo..because that's the first thing you see when you start it. and Not all demos, mainly uncharted demo. they were talking non stop about mnr, lbp, sound shapes and their gameplay innovations. they were talking about those somewhat smaller titles since a week before E3 actually started even. For example wipeout and voice command integration was talked about in detail.

Social connectivity stuff came strong especially around GC time..I guess that's around the time when they started to finalize them. You can find yourself various interviews, presentations and vids on the subject by Sony. During E3 they showed off AR capabilities to the media a lot! So no graphics are not their main focus in marketing the device, it's just a part of many things.

again not all games announced are multiplat. There are quite a few games that are exclusive to the system and are unique. No need to be picky on what you mention, as I said there is a big range in play here.so when you say all you say the types are the same it's a rather misinformed generalization as I pointed out.

It won't affect ps3 sales..even if it does it will be very small. The main point to consider here are the markets they are catering to and they are not the same at all. simple as that.
