If i may, i`ll try to explain some things you said. Hope you don`t get this the wrong way.
"would tell you how to live your life" - Coming from God, it would be better understood as Him showing what life really is all about. Not just about Himself but how that affects you.
"condemn you to eternity in hell if you disobey him" - It`s not a question of obeying or desobeying. It`s more about why you did that: you rejected that He was the truth, path and life. In the end, you negated Him those atributes and gave them to someone else, something else or yourself.
"forgive you if you slap yourself across the face a few times and give $10 to the church" - Don`t know where you seen this, but giving money doesn`t get you salvation. The slap across the face could be read as repentance or reparation for your sins. Jesus called on Him all the sins to save us, when people repent with sacrifices (whatever they are) is a way of calling to yourself the pain caused to God by yourself and even others.
"that you will be tortured for an eternity, especially when your heinous crime is loving somebody of your own gender, or just not accepting that a man was the son of God without any evidence"
The question of being sent to hell is not what you did, it`s what you didn`t repent or regret.
The evidence you are looking for is in the Bible (who`s coming was foretold, on people`s claim for miracles and apparitions. You will find Him there.
