On a technical level (and this may be in the OP--I still haven't read it), we've got
-a significant boost in graphics.
- got downloadable games
-voice chat and video chat for the masses
-widespread online games
-entertainment options like Netflix, Last FM, Hulu Plus, etc.
-Motion controls
-Standard Wireless controllers (before, we had to purchase them separately)
Before that, with the jump from PS1 to PS2, we just got a jump from 3D to a more detailed 3D. There may be a couple of other things (a minor focus on online gaming, the Eyetoy) but this gen was the gen that got it right. I'm happy with the gen.
