Though it's not specified in my thread title, I wanted this to be strictly about game consoles/hand helds.
Also, the thing about PCs is that they're so open-ended. For example, are we talking about a PC from '96 or 2006? Someone with an older PC can't experience current games without upgrades. With consoles, having an NES or PS3 means having access to their entire respective software lines, save for a few exceptions (GB can't play GBC games, PSP Go can't play UMDs, etc).
