all parts of the world have something, some have extreme heat and cold, some get's hurricains or tornados, other places are more prone to tzunamies, volcanoes, flash floods, fires.
California has one of the best climates in the world. Yes there is living knowing that the next big one is coming and not all the infastructure is where it should be, but the standars here are better than many other places in the world.
Something that is funny is most people are nervous about the san andres fault. When it's a big one on the Hayward fault that could really do the most devestation. While a very active zone in the norther part of the state where 3 techtonic plate come together is active but there isn't much population there.
