This actually looks good and makes me want to get the game which is a minor miracle considering I haven't really liked a Final Fantasy since FF9. The gameplay isn't run in a straight line anymore, there seems to be more user interaction in battles (even though the original battle system was great as it is). The battles just felt so repetitive in FFXIII after twenty hours, maybe that's because it's all you did in the game.

These two images show there's a day and night cycle of some sort. The night image implies stealth is needed at night, so thankfully the environments aren't devoid of interactivity this time.

This was impressive although it makes no sense that cocoon shines at night; contrary to popular belief crystals do not shine at night. They only shine when a light source is shone at them (which is why womens crystals shine in big halls with lighting).
Overall the trailer was good, the music is great, the voice acting seems improved over the last title. You can clearly see more interactivity in environments and there are towns, the only thing missing is an airship and a world map now. I especially liked the end of the trailer, an interesting location and a interesting looking villain (both things which were not to be found in XIII). I'm still not expecting a good story because Watanabe is listed as a writer, at least a professional novelist is overseeing the story so we may get something that resembles a plot this time.
My main negative point is that the graphics look much worse than FFXIII.
