Bullshit. He actually means

'We need to beat X360'

Which doesn't translate into weak at all.

“History has shown us that once you get to £199 you hit lift off. We can do some serious business and this kick-starts that. Getting to £199 was a defining moment for the PSone and PS2 – this will be no different.“

Except the PS1 and PS2 were dominant consoles, the PS3 isn't, and won't beat the 360 this holiday.

I think he means, 'we need to sell more PS3's here.'

And, you could argue that the PS1 & PS2 were more dominant partly because they hit £199 a lot earier.

This £199 thing is such a red herring....

The PS2 hit £199 in 2003... thats the equivalent of £240 now.

I have no idea on the PSOne, but £199 in 1999 is now £260.

I dont buy the psychological tipping point nonsense to try and justify this, so please dont anyone bother with that... its about affordability and nothing else.

It's also stupid because, PS3 has reached £199 a lot later than PS1 and PS2 did. The idea that they can drop to mass market price at any point and it'll hit PS2-esq strides is stupid, the thing isn't even mass market price in America yet, looks like it'll hit it when WiiU hits which will be the start of next gen, do people really believe PS3 sales are going to take off massively when this very long gen comes to a close and next gen starts??!
