While there are a lot of Christians in the country, there are also proportionally more Christians in jail than Atheists.
The reason why probably isn't due to the morality encouraged by either, it's because statistically atheists in America are wealthy, well educated and white. All three of those demographics are proportionally under-represented in the prison population.
