Anyway, I disagree quite strongly with a lot of Lenin's ideaologies (or at least his implementation of them) but I still consider him to be a hero.

You are honestly scared by democratic socialism? I suspect you are infact thinking of Stalin, but it's ok, I would imagine the American history sylabus doesn't differentiate between the two, nor between them and the devil. if you're ever interested in learning something about Lenin, Marx and democratic socialism, then just give me a bell.
