True, but I bought a 1080p tv 5 years ago. The graphics use up all processing time and memory so there's not much left for huge open levels with many characters on screen or complex AI. Those games are definitely beautiful and great to play, but sometimes I want something less point A to B. Mostly I'm just disappointed in From dust, it could have been so much more. Bad pathing and tiny map size can only be blamed on working with too limited resources. A new gen can give birth to some great new franchises when the graphics war hasn't yet taken over all processing power. The mobs in dead rising, heavenly sword and kameo were great for example. Lair was very ambitious with the huge maps and long draw distances though unfortunately unplayable. TDU was awesome for the huge map and novel online play, but the sequel got quickly forgotten for not keeping up with the graphics war. Ridge racer 7, wipeout HD, super smooth 1080p gameplay. Where did that go. |
i would venture to say, Killzone has the best enemy AI of any shooter this gen.
also are you saying you want open world games to look as good as they do (i wouldnt mind this by the way) becuase they arent any less or anymore linear than other games of the same genre. but and they still have their share of wide openness, i would say one of the most open areas of uncharted is also its best looking, the tibetin village after drake wakes up from his injury.
but im not saying i dont want better graphics, i just had a problem with you saying games are strugling to be 720p with solid framerate, with load times, and installs. when it so happens the best looking games of this gen have not only no installs or load screens, but they also have >30 fps and 720p with AA
