For online games it's good to communicate and joke around or brag about a great kill.

In singleplayer games it's nice to have a little discussion as long as it doesn't break the immersion. Plus it's a great alternative to a telephone, it's a shame PS3 doesn't have many mics and cross game chat, most of my friends are on PSN.


I know 3 people all with ps3s and they all want cross game chat.

And they all said YES, they wanted cross game chat. 

I use it all the time on xbox live. You can mute players you don't wanna hear and it helps with teamwork. 

I don't have an unlimited cell phone plan so calling people by phone wouldn't work for me

you can mute players on psn btw... but i'm curious how does talking to people playing different games than you help with team work for people presumably playing the same game you are?

You can mute people on PSN, but can you mute them all but your friends? If you're in a party chat on XBL, you don't have to worry about blocking all the random people that do not take part in your party. This really helps with the teamwork, and also allows you to have better sound quality all the time, since you're not using the game chat.

Anyway, there's some people saying even if they had this option, they would never use it. That is BS.
You have to be really rude, or simple have nobody to talk with to deny the use of this feature. I have made some friends on the internet (Forums mainly). Some, people who i won't ever meet in reality or call with my phone. And i usually have nice conversations about games and other stuff with them on Live.

Why do this happen? Because it's the easiest way to communicate with that person (or that group of people) while i'm playing Xbox. Nobody, EVER, is forced to talk if he or she don't want to. If that person just want to play a video-game anb be quiet, it simply leave the party or just don't join.
