And this is why Sony/MS wont need to launch a new console, just because Nintendo are.

they dont need to launch purely because they are capable?

not so

a capable machine that isnt selling well enough will be replaced.

correct me if i'm wrong but ps3 and 360 have both been up YoY every single year since launch.  with the ps3 pricecut just hitting and a 360 price-cut at least possible i'd say there are at least even odds up both being up YoY yet again.  until they take a downturn YoY we aren't over with this gen.  and like carl said, the wii U is bound to extend this gen even further since it appears to be close in power to the ps360.

Where does it say I dont agree with that, where did I say sales werent good enough. The article is trying to say there is no need for a replacement purely because the hardware has capability untapped.  It isnt the devleopers who decide this, it isnt even the manufacurers... its the consumers.  If they stop buying console x then console y will soon follow.

All I said was that being capable alone is not enough, the fact that there is hardware capability is secondary to sales numbers.

If the sales numbers are good enough, a point you alude to, then yes there is no need to launch yet.

But if sales were poor and the harware still had room left, it wouldnt matter, a new machine would come.

yeah, no.  after posting i saw your second reply to carl to which i realised that wasn't the point you were making.  the bolded just implied to me that sales we're high enough, might have also been influenced of the YoY posts you make in the sales threads calling out the current bad trends.
