Now what? Now western nations continue to sink money into conflicts that will only breed more contempt for us.

This one isn't causing much contempt.

So far the only nations that have come out completely against what is happening are Iran and Venezuela (no suprises). Some other nations - notably Russia - have been disapproving of what they see as overstepping the resolution allowing the intervention, but they will also be happy to see Gadaffi gone. In much of the Middle-East there is support for the revolution in Libya and in much of Libya there is support for the NATO intervention.

As for what happens to Libya, it's a tough question. The hope is that the TNC is strong enough to unite Libya until elections happen which will almost certainly be based around tribes and Islam. There is a possibility of Libya splitting into Cyrenacia and Tripolitania. Worst case scenario is probably tribal warfare.
