The N64 needed two analogue sticks and an optical drive which is what the Gamecube had. The Gamecube needed to differentiate itself from the competition which is what the Wii was and the Wii needed to cater to a *complete* broader audience with better third party support which is what the Wii U is. Effectively the Wii U is two of what the Wii should have been duct taped together.

 Nintendo are far too conservative for their own good!
