Do not confuse Atheism with Anti-Theism. While many Anti-Theists are Atheists. Not all Atheists are Anti-Theists. In the case of Atheism it is a state of indifference. 

Sounds like your confusing atheists with agnostics. Atheists are not indifferent. If you are atheist then you actively believe that God does not exists. Its a real belief, not a state of indifference. Agnostics are the ones who lean more towards indifference.
