I feel like this gaming generation is ending soon. What is your best memory of it so far?

Wow Bugrimmar...i don't think i had such a profound memory as the one you mentioned. I think I should buy Valkyria Chronicles some time :P

For me, the gen started out very slow, im saying this as a ps3 gamer, the games i initially played on the ps3 were some of the worst games i have ever played in my life :( i remember being considerably underwhelmed especially after spending so much money on the system.

Then i had heard a lot of talk about a game called call of duty: modern warfare, i read some good reviews and people were talking. One day i found myself in the game shop and i saw modern warfare going for a good price and i just bought it on a whim (was never really into FPS).

So not expecting anything i started to play the game and il never forget that opening scene driving through some middle eastern country as a prisoner. WOW the atmosphere, the realism, the sound, the graphics, everything about this was awesome. I remember thinking to myself "this is what the next gen should be like". To me this is what started the generation, and really shocked me in a good way, i couldn't believe i was seeing this is in a game.

I never did get into the mp of COD and i actually didn't buy another COD since but i think call of duty modern warfare is a gem of a game and really marked the beginning of this generation as well as set the standard for games to follow, for better or for worse.

Something similar happened to me with uncharted drakes fortune. Again i only bought the game based on reviews and word of mouth and i only bought it a few years after it was realized. You see i usually buy games in pairs. I would buy a new release game as well as a bargain bin game. I think i bought Killzone 2 around its launch time and at the same time i bought uncharted as a bargain game.

WOW again i was amazed. I was so angry at myself for taking so long to buy the game it really is a masterpiece. I ended up playing uncharted more than i played killzone 2 lol!

I think both these games set the precedent for games to follow (i used the word standard above but precedent is more fitting). Its probably because of these games doing so well and becoming popular that i haven't even played a game like Valkyria Chronicles as i am first and foremost a rpg gamer. People would see this as a bad thing, however it signifies the effect these two games have had on the industry as well as me as a gamer and in that way are my best memories of the gen.
