Hewlett Packard bought Palm, makers of WebOS around a year ago, hoping to merge their smartphones with their PC division to make tablet PCs. The result was the TouchPad. Unfortunately, the TouchPad is arguably one of the worst failures in years, and failed to sell much more than 1/10th of their initial shipment.

The only thing that comes close in recent years is the Kin. But that was based on an aquisition half the size, and I'm pretty sure it involved a much smaller initial shipment and launch campaign, too. The crazy part is that they kept promoting it right up until the brutal end, with ads, price drops, and a brand new 64GB model launching on the same day it got axed.

Everybody talks about how great webOS is, but nobody can seem to execute with it. Enjoy your cheap Touchpads, a lot of the reviews say it's the second best tablet out there.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing
